What We Learned During Our Soft Opening
On May 25, 2026, we began the soft opening of Yunomi.Matcha in Togoshi Ginza, Tokyo.
Most cafes hold a soft opening for just a few days, but we chose to keep ours open for nearly a month.
The reason was simple:
We wanted to build a better Matcha stand.
Rather than rushing to a grand opening, we wanted to listen to our customers, learn from their experiences, and improve every detail along the way.
The Conversations Started Before We Even Opened
One of the biggest surprises came before we officially opened our doors.
While we were still preparing the cafe, people walking through Togoshi Ginza kept opening the door and asking,
"Are you open yet?"
From the very beginning, we could feel how welcoming and curious this neighborhood is. Every conversation made us even more excited to become part of the community.
"Why Is Your Soft Opening So Long?"
This was probably the question we heard the most.
Instead of giving a short answer, we explained:
"Because we want to make this cafe better. We want to hear what people think and improve before our grand opening."
Once people heard that, they were incredibly generous with their ideas.
Advice That Helped Shape Yunomi.Matcha
Throughout the month, our customers shared thoughtful suggestions and encouragement.
Some of our favorites were:
-
"We're so happy to finally have a stylish café like this in Togoshi."
-
"Cashless is convenient, but it might be difficult for some elderly customers."
-
"I wish there were a place like this near where I live."
-
"I'd love to see more unique matcha lattes and seasonal drinks."
-
"You should create a Togoshi souvenir!"
-
"Send samples to TV stations, magazines, and media companies—they'll love your story."
Each comment gave us something to think about. Many of these conversations have already influenced the way we're developing our menu, products, and customer experience.
More Than a Cafe
Our goal has never been to simply serve matcha.
At Yunomi.Matcha, we hope to introduce people to the stories behind Japanese tea—the farmers who grow it, the traditions that surround it, and the craftsmanship that makes every cup special.
We also want this to be a place where people connect through tea.
During our soft opening, we realized that many of our best ideas didn't come from meetings—they came from conversations across the counter.
Thank You for Growing With Us
Yunomi.Matcha is not a finished project.
It's a place that will continue to evolve alongside our customers, our local community, and visitors from around the world.
To everyone who visited us during our soft opening, thank you.
Your encouragement, ideas, and honest feedback helped shape the café that Yunomi.Matcha is today.
We look forward to continuing this journey together, one cup of tea at a time.
