Nankei Pottery (南景製陶園) is a Yokkaichi, Mie based kiln of Bankoyaki (万古焼) tradition ceramics started in 1972. It was founded way earlier back in 1913 as a pottery clay maker, mainly refining white clay for Taisho-yaki and red clay for teapots. They eventually steering into manufacturing pottery in which they have been active for 49 years as of today. The company is now managed by Araki Teruhiko (荒木照彦), the third generation owner of this family business.
Tea wares that were born at Nankei Pottery came from the simple thought of wanting people to always effortlessly enjoy having tea, and from the unchanging state of the tea culture itself. The design of each pieces is simple and in subtle expression. On top of that, the detailed grainy feel of the clay's texture in hands when holding it, and its iron rich clay that helps to mellow the bitter taste of tea are the characteristics of their pieces too.
