Hojicha Marshmallow Latte Recipe

Hojicha Marshmallow Latte Recipe

Sachiko Murata |

Are you ready for a indulgent treat? This simple Hojicha Marshmallow Latte combines the earth, toasted notes of hojicha with a cloud of toasted marshmallows. It's a cafe-quality drink you can make at home that elevate your relaxation ritual in just a few easy steps.

For those new to this Japanese tea, hojicha (焙じ茶, meaning "roasted tea") is a traditional green tea made by roasting green tea leaves to develop a rich, nutty flavor.

Hojicha is available as both loose leaf and fine powder from here.

For this recipe, a finely milled powder is ideal for creating a smooth, rich latte quickly and easily. Powder is also recommended for baking and cooking, as it blends easily into various recipes.

Now that you know a little more about hojicha, let's turn into something cozy and soothing. This latte comes together quickly and makes the perfect slow-down moment. Let's get started!

Hojicha Marshmallow Latte Recipe

Ingredients (Serves 1)

  • 2 teaspoons hojicha powder
  • 30ml hot water
  • 150ml milk of your choice
  • Sweetener (sugar, honey, etc), optional
  • 1 tablespoon crushed nuts
  • 1 tablespoon melted white chocolate
  • Marshmallows, as needed
  • Cinnamon powder, optional

Instructions

  1. Coat the rim of a mug with melted white chocolate, then dip it into the crushed nuts. Set a side.
  2. In a small cup, whisk the hojicha powder with the hot water until it forms a smooth paste. Add sweetener, if desired.
  3. Pour the hojicha base into the prepared mug, then gently add the warmed milk.
  4. Top with marshmallows. Toast them with a kitchen torch until golden brown, or place pre-grilled marshmallows on a foil-lined tray and warm them in the oven before adding the latte.
  5. Sprinkle with cinnamon powder to taste, and serve immediately.

Tip:

For a smooth hojicha base, use a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a milk frother to ensure the powder is dissolved.

Now it's time to try it for yourself. Adjust the sweetness, toppings, and milk to suit your taste, and make this hojicha marshmallow latte your own. Enjoy!
